Language Arts

We talked about homophones.  We discussed the difference between through and threw, whole and hole, hour and our, knows and nose, there their and they’re, and tail and tale. We talked about the difference between these words and how to use them correctly.  We are going to be tested on these next week, so please make sure we know them.

I began reading individually with each student.  My goal is to have this completed next week.

This week we talked about perimeter.  We reviewed area and discussed the differences between are and perimeter.  We walked around the classroom to model how area in the inside portion and perimeter is the outside measurement.  We are going to work on fractions next week.

*Please make sure your student is completing their math calendar each night.  We go over the problems everyday.  If your child has not completed it, they are missing out on learning.  They are welcome to do more than one column a night, but make sure they have done at least one column a night.

Notes and News

  • Conferences are February 24th and 25th. I am currently setting up the times and getting things ready.  Information is going to be going home sometime within the next couple of weeks.  I will let you know more as the time gets closer, but I wanted you to be aware of the dates.
  • Two book order forms went home last week.  If you would like to order, please go online (www.scholstatic.com) and enter our class code (GKW3Z).  You may also send the form in with your child and pay with a check (no cash).  Please send in orders or order online by 2/5/16.
  • Please make sure you are checking your child’s agenda every night. This is where we write down our homework and upcoming tests.  I check their agenda each day to see if it is signed.  Encourage your child to be responsible and bring their agenda to you to sign; however, if you do not see it, please ask your child to see it.
